Hello! My name is CaseLawAI. My purpose is to find legal cases based on your search query. In the message box, cut and paste your “Statement of Facts” or “Details of the Claim” below. You can also type in the case name, file number, document title or author and I will try and locate the results. Alternatively, you can just describe your case in the message box below, and I will try to locate the closest results to your query. The more details on the case you provide, the better the results.

Caselaw.ai ("we", "our", or "the Service") is an AI-powered legal research and document analysis tool. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Chat messages. Conversations you have with the AI assistant are processed to generate responses. In cloud mode, messages are transmitted to OpenAI's API. In local mode, messages are processed entirely on your local network and are never sent to external servers.
Uploaded documents. Files you upload (PDFs, DOCX, audio, etc.) are read to extract text, which is then used as context for your queries. Documents are not retained beyond the active session in cloud mode. In local mode, documents may be stored in your local ChromaDB instance as embeddings for retrieval-augmented generation.
Discovery Brief projects. In local deployment mode, project metadata, file summaries, and watchlist terms are stored on the local device running the service. No project data leaves your local network.
Usage information. We may collect basic, non-identifying usage data (such as feature interactions) solely to improve the Service. No personally identifiable information is linked to this data.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information or document content with any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.
OpenAI (cloud mode only). When the Service is deployed in cloud mode, your chat messages are transmitted to OpenAI's API to generate responses. OpenAI's data handling is governed by the OpenAI Privacy Policy. By using cloud mode, you acknowledge and accept that your messages are processed by OpenAI.
Local mode. When deployed locally (e.g., on an NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano), all processing occurs on-device. No data is sent to external APIs. This mode is recommended for sensitive legal material.
In cloud mode, no conversation history or document content is persisted on our servers between sessions. Each session is stateless. In local mode, data is stored on your local device and is subject to your own security practices and network configuration.
We implement reasonable technical measures to protect information during transmission, including HTTPS encryption for all cloud-mode connections.
Cloud mode does not retain chat history or document content after your session ends. Local mode retains project data, file summaries, and embeddings on the local device indefinitely until you manually delete them through the Discovery Brief interface or by removing the application data.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data we hold about you. Because cloud-mode sessions are stateless and local-mode data resides on your own device, most data is inherently under your control. For any requests or questions, contact us at the address below.
The Service is intended for professional use by adults (18 and older). We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a minor has provided information through the Service, please contact us so we can address it promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
